THE PREPOSTEROUS BOLLOX OF THE SITUATION

A collection of stuff, things, nonsense, rants, raves, pretties, sillies, and gee-gaws from Rev. Hugo Nebula, Ordained Minister of the Church of the SubGenius. (And boobs. Sometimes there are boobs. Just like in real life.) Thank you for reading.

“According to some sources, a schoolgirl was kidnapped and brought to the Yui Grand Love Hotel – which by then was already abandoned. Three criminals apparently kept her in one of the rooms, abused her and then finally murdered her.

“A graffiti artist may have wanted to bring the story of the murdered schoolgirl to life with this rendering of bloody handprints. Whoever was responsible for these eerie impressions, they certainly have the desired macabre effect.”

Argentinian designer Pablo Matteoda created this beautiful Sharky tea-infuser. It’s elegant and ever-so-slightly macabre. If we used this awesome little gadget, we wouldn’t be able to make our tea without also humming the theme from Jaws

“A woman in western Sweden who was arrested after police found skeletons in her apartment has now been charged for using the bones as sex toys, a hobby she claimed was motivated by an interest in history.

“A 37-year-old woman, who was arrested in September, was formally charged on Tuesday at the Gothenburg District Court for the crime of “violating the peace of the dead” (brott mot griftesfriden).”

“Two bone dueling pistols (with spare bullets) mounted in a custom altered case which has been counter-sunk into a specially made rimu table. All of the bones have been found locally by the artist. The head on the bottom gun is from a ferret and the top one is from a black-backed gull. Both have barrels made from cat’s vertebrae. This archival quality work by Wellington artist, Bruce Mahalski (with assistance from local jeweler, Vaune Mason) has not yet been exhibited and this is the first time it is being offered for sale.”

“This pony was made from a baity G3 October Dreams birthstone pony who had her jewel cut out. I smoothed over the pony’s eyes, neck seam, tail and hair plug holes with Apoxy Clay. Real glass taxidermy eyes of various types where used, super glued to the pony, then sculpted eyelids added using Apoxy Clay. I used a thin sewing needle to add tiny holes for “eyelashes” to be inserted into later.”

‘SLICE’ Skin cake

This is a new project. I have chosen to name the company ‘Slice’, as it deals with cake designs which have a hint of the grotesque.  There are undertones of passion and obsession.  Make of these what you will, they are really showing my love for all things a little bit wrong, my inner thoughts spilling out.

The script for issue two of The Whale House was finished a couple of weeks ago (which was behind my preferred schedule, but gave me the chance to adjust some elements based on the first few reviews and comments on issue one), and is now in the hands of artist Chris Doherty, who shares this image of Laura ‘LaLa’ Havers (néeWhale). Issue two is scheduled to debut at Thought Bubble 2012 in November, where I shall be sharing a table with Chris. Around that time, we’re looking to have an online resource to accompany The Whale House, which will help keep the characters and situations straight in readers’ minds, as well as offering more clues and mysteries in parallel with the ongoing story.

Body Bakery: Bread imitating Gore  by Kittiwat Unarrom

This brings weird to a whole new level. Thai Fine Art student and artist Kittiwat Unarrom is the son of a baker. All that baking exposure growing up has been a clear influence, but his artistic need to see things a little differently definitely flared up as he created the tacitly named “Body Bakery” – brutally, gruesomely, almost unbelievably realistic looking sculptures of dismembered human body parts sculpted entirely from bread.

With a master in Fine Arts Kittiwat Unarrom creates sculpture in bread. Not just normal sculpture but horror, dark art, gore, something I don’t know if I could actually eat. Located in Ratchaburi, Thailand Kittiwat creates feet, hands, heads, and internal organs among other body parts all entirely edible and for sale at his family’s bakery. He skillfully paints each piece to look terrifying to the observer/customer.

Some people willingly donated their skins for the purpose of binding narratives about their lives after death. James Allen, alias George Walton, was one such person. Allen, a ‘Jamaican mulatto’, was a 19th-century highwayman. One day, he assaulted John A. Fenno on the Massachusetts Turnpike. Fenno bravely resisted the robbery, even sustaining a gunshot wound in the process. He later became instrumental in the apprehension of his attacker. On his deathbed, Allen requested that his skin be used to bind a book about his crimes, and for this to be presented to Fenno as a ‘token of his esteem’.

“An eerie silence hangs in the air. Even the wind seems to have died down to nothing. It’s dark inside the old factory, and cool in spite of the heat outside. Hundreds of molds and casts are stacked against the wall, over tables and on shelves, almost attractive in their ramshackle regularity. In contrast, the limbs, heads and bodies strewn around the dilapidated space are creepy – almost macabre – as if the stricken figures have been victims of dissection. Or butchery.”
